Episode 105
Original Air Date 01/15/06

"All Systems No Go" was the twelfth episode aired in the first season of Life With Derek, but the production code is 105, and I'm sure it's the fifth episode chronologically.

The episode begins during the week, and we see Casey at her scheduled session with Paul, so we know a Thursday has passed.

The infamous "Book Club Meeting" takes place on the first Saturday of the month. As the past four episodes have encompassed the month of September, I think it is safe to say that this is the first Saturday of October. I highly doubt it is November, since Derek is to be seen swimming in the Davis' pool.

There is no mention of ages in this episode.

It is interesting that Casey focuses so much on being labeled as a "control freak" when Derek is the only one who calls her that. She's a little concerned about what he thinks of her. ;)

Through these facts, I've concluded that this episode takes place over the last week of September of 2005 and the first weekend of October 2005.

Episode 104
Original Air Date 10/02/05

"The Party" was the third episode aired in the first season of Life With Derek, but the production code is 104, and as we've already established that "House of Games" was the second episode, I'm certain this is the fourth.

This episode takes place over one weekend. As "The Fall" ends on (presumably) a Friday night, and "The Party" begins with either a Thursday or a Friday night (I'm not sure which), then another week has to have taken place.

Also, Casey is now 15 years old, though I'm not sure why they center an entire episode around her 16th birthday, Derek's 16th birthday, and Marti's 8th birthday, but they don't even mention Casey's 15th. But, whatever. :)

It is implied here that Marti is 6 years old, and we know from 401 that her birthday is in January sometime, so this actually seems to fit.

During the party, Edwin complains that it took him a year to get the scores on his video game, which he says is "a tenth of my life". So I'm guessing Edwin is 10 here.

Through these facts, I've concluded that this episode takes place over the last weekend of September 2005, which puts Casey's birthday sometime in the last week of September.

I'm not going to throw in a Dasey comment here, because there are too many to choose from for this episode and I love them all!

Episode 103
Original Air Date 9/25/05

"The Fall" was the second episode aired in the first season of Life With Derek, but the production code is 103 and I'm certain it takes place after House of Games.

Casey mentions that two weeks of school have passed, and Casey goes to see Paul (which, as far as we know, still happens on Thursdays). I can't imagine that it would have taken George and Nora over a week to move their things into the basement bedroom, and since they were moving in HOG, I assume that this episode takes place after that.

This episode is the first appearance of Sam, and it is the beginning of Casey's "crush" on Sam. It is not clear yet whether Sam has a crush on Casey.

As of this episode, kids at school now know that Casey and Derek are stepsibs (although stupid Corey Plunkett calls Casey "Derek's sister", forcing me to yell "STEPSISTER" at my computer screen).

Random Note: This episode mentions the time when "Marti threw up in the new station wagon". What new station wagon? Was this before George and Abby split up? Perhaps she took the station wagon and George took The Prince? I just thought that was a cool little tidbit about their past lives.

Also, I know this episode was totally trying to build up Sasey, but my Dasey warped mind still thinks that Derek made Casey clumsy. Sure, he mentioned Sam at dinner, but it was the Dasey food fight that made Casey drop her plate, not the mention of Sam's name.

Anyway, through these facts, I have concluded that this episode takes place over the third week of September 2005.

As of this episode, Casey is 14 years old, Derek is 15, and Marti is 6. The ages of Edwin and Lizzie are still unknown, however, it is fairly certain that they are not yet teenagers, so no older than 12.

Episode 102
Original Air Date 11/13/2005

"House of Games" was the eighth episode aired in season one of Life With Derek, however, its production code is 102 and after watching the episode, I am certain it is actually the second episode of the series, chronologically.

In this episode, George and Nora are still moving their furniture into the basement bedroom.

Casey goes to see Paul in this episode, indicating that the episode encompasses a Thursday, which is Casey's scheduled day to see Paul. This proves that at least two weeks of school have now passed.

This is also the first appearance of the "games closet", which reappears in episode 103, "The Fall". We know it is the first appearance because Edwin asks Lizzie how she acquired a key to the games closet.

Through these facts, I have concluded that this episode takes place over the second week of September 2005.

As of this episode, Casey is 14 years old, Derek is 15, and Marti is 6. The ages of Edwin and Lizzie are still unknown, however, it is fairly certain that they are not yet teenagers, so no older than 12.

Episode 101
Original Air Date 09/18/2005

"The Room" is the pilot episode of Life With Derek. We are led to believe, until episode 410, that this is Derek and Casey's first meeting.

This episode marks the beginning of Grade 10 for Derek and Casey and Casey's first day at JS Thompson, which leads us to believe that George and Nora were married over the summer. This is further confirmed in episode 410.

This episode takes place over the first week of school, as Casey sees Paul on Thursday (Yay Paul!).

This is also the episode where George and Nora move into the basement, unwisely bunking Casey and Derek next door to each other. :)

Through these facts, I have concluded that this episode takes place over the first week of September.

As of this episode, Casey is 14 years old, Derek is 15, and Marti is 6. The ages of Edwin and Lizzie are still unknown, however, it is fairly certain that they are not yet teenagers, so no older than 12.

I'm not sure why LWD/Family Channel thought it would be a good idea to air an episode that takes place in September in the middle of December,  but they apparently did. I can only assume that this episode takes place, if I had to pick a year, in September of 2005.

EDIT: This episode originally aired in September, not December, which makes a lot more sense. So this episode does, in fact, take place in September of 2005. :)

As in, why bother creating a LWD timeline? Well, because I am a nerd. And OCD. It drives me crazy not having a basic timeframe for these episodes (especially S3. What a mess)! And sort of as an f-you to the LWD writers who think they can ignore something as important as the passing of time.

This isn't going to be just an episode list, either. You can get those a million different places on the web (although a few of them *cough* tv.com *cough* are wrong). The most accurate one I have found so far is tvrage.com. But the episode lists don't tell you the important details.

What I'm doing is watching each of the epidodes as closely as possible (in order, starting with "The Room" - thank you youtube) and writing down every clue as to what time of year it is, how long the episode lasts (is it one weekend, one week, a few weeks, etc) how much time has passed between episodes. I'm also keeping tabs on who's together, who's broken up, when a character is introduced and when they disappear, what kind of activities each character is involved in(i.e., is Lizzie playing soccer yet? Is Casey a cheerleader?), has this character started driving, etc.

I'm hoping that I can create a fairly accurate timeline. Of course I've already run into a couple of kinks, but I'll smooth them out as best I can. I've also run into the problem that the timeline on the show cannot be reconciled with real time, but I've about got that worked out.

I'll create a post for each episode and  one for each season to give the order of the episodes (based on my timeline) and any issues I may have come across.

I hope that someone else finds this useful, as well, but if not, that's okay. I'm mostly doing this for me. :)
